Welcome to the Open Radio Museum

A free exhibition linking the machines and histories of radio with the living experience of listening around the world.

A public place to explore

The Open Radio Museum is an independent online cultural project within World Radio Now. Visiting is free and does not require an account. The exhibition's navigation, introductory material, object interpretations and learning sheet are available in 15 languages. Journal articles are published in English.

Follow a thread

Our opening exhibition, From Sparks to Streaming, follows four themes: communication without wires, listening in the home, voices across borders and radio's continuing life. Six interpretive exhibits connect source records with questions you can investigate yourself.

Original explanatory drawings accompany the exhibits. They are not archival photographs, exact reconstructions or claims that we own the historical objects. Follow the source links to the institutions that preserve the records and originals.

A museum that can grow

The journal will include radio culture, history, technology, stations, exhibitions and memories. Editorial text prepared with AI assistance is checked against the listed sources. Corrections and additional evidence are welcome through Contact Us.

Visitor contributions remain private until publication and attribution have been agreed. Future updates can bring more places and experiences into the exhibition. You can also move from a historical story to the public station directory and hear the world as it broadcasts today.
